Choices: Pre-Retirement
A series of seven weekly classes for employees and their spouses or life partners. Designed for employees who are one to five years from retirement. This is a comprehensive look at all retirement issues. Participants will learn the basics of the retirement system, health and dental coverage, long-term care, and what happens when you become eligible for Medicare coverage. Outside presenters include professionals who help class attendees understand investment basics, stress management, and basic wills and trust information. Class also covers readiness for retirement, relocating, and re-adjusting to a life after work. Two and one-half each.


Brown Bag: Financial Planning for Your Future (Early-Career Employees)
This Brown Bag is designed to educate new employees on wise investment and retirement planning. Participants will be able to set up a financial plan for all their financial goals including paying off debts, building wealth, buying a home, saving for children’s college, and retirement. These classes will be held on two consecutive Tuesdays, two hours each.


Brown Bag: Building Your Wealth (Mid-Career Employees)
This Brown Bag is designed as a status check for mid-career employees to evaluate whether or not they are on track with their investments for retirement planning. Participants will be able to set up a plan and stay on track for retirement without short-changing other financial goals, evaluate tax implications of various investments, and consider the option of early retirement. These classes will be held on two consecutive Wednesdays, two-hours each.


Brown Bag: Organizing and Managing Your Finances
Participants will be better able to assume responsibility for their financial future by participating in informative and interactive exercises, they will develop an action plan for achieving all their financial goals. Two-hour class.


Brown Bag: Understanding Home Loans and How to Qualify
For Employees contemplating first time home purchase. This class examines the loan process and how to qualify. Participants will learn the basic types of home finance, how credit rating is done and understand how to purchase and sell a home. The class will cover important tips for those planning to build a home, and how to choose an architect or a builder. Two-hour class.


Brown Bag: How To Research and Select Stocks
This class is designed to help participants gather information to make good stock selections. It will teach key stock selection strategies used by analysts and professionals and review valid reasons for selling stocks. Class will learn how to calculate taxes on stock investments and learn to identify red flags in annual and quarterly reports. Two-hour class.


Brown Bag: Investing In Your Health 101
The program identifies the four models of good health and helps participants understand how aging impacts our health. It examines recent research that shows the effects of leading a stressful life. It helps class apply a positive approach to conflict resolution. Class members receive a resource guide for personal reference.


Brown Bag: The Police and Fire Retirement System
This class will define the benefits of the Police and Fire Retirement System, explain age and vesting requirements, the disability retirement process, deferred vesting, reciprocity, pension estimates, sick leave and vacation payouts. Post retirement health, dental coverage, long-term care, Medicare and Social Security offset are also covered. Two-hour class.


Brown Bag: Selecting Mutual Funds for Your Portfolio
This class is designed to help participants gain more in-depth knowledge of important factors when selecting mutual fund investments. Buy using real life publications and examples, participants will attain important skills for future investment selections. Two-hour class.


Brown Bag: Getting Out of Debt and Developing Smart Credit Habits
Participants will gain valuable knowledge and skills needed to build and maintain a good credit rating. Two-hour class.


Brown Bag: Home Buying Process
This class helps participants with a general understanding of the process involved in purchasing a home. By working through interactive course exercises, participants will be better able to monitor their real estate transactions. Two-hour class.


Brown Bag: Developing Effective Budgeting & Spending Habits
Participants who attend this course will learn how to make better spending decisions, get out of debt, and stay on track with all financial goals. Two-hour class.
